How to Jump the Wake
Now that you’ve got your wakeboard and all the gear you need, now you wanna start catchin some air. Well here I will tell you how to do that. Before trying to jump the wake your going to want to learn to “bunny hop”, if you learn this before jumping the wake your really going to catch some air when you do jump it.
Bunny Hop
- Ride directly behind the boat
- Lean back to load the rope with tension
- Slightly bend your knees and push down on the tail of your board
- Now jump and pull your knees up beneath you as you hop into the air.
- Land with your weight slightly back, but not too much to avoid falling
- Now just keep practicing this until you get more height and are comfortable doing it.
Jumping the Wake
- As I said before if you learn to bunny hop first you’ll catch much more air when jumping the wake. Don’t get me wrong, naturally you’ll grab some air just going over the wake as well but bunny hopping at the same time will really launch you.
- Start outside the wake
- Bend your knees and lean against the boat to load the line with tension as you start cutting towards the wake
- Quickly cut towards the wake, this will increase tension as you get closer.
- Keep cutting until you hit the lip of the wake
- Do a bunny hop at the very lip of the wake
- As your flying in the air pull you knees up and level off the board to gain maximum height
- Finally just land and keep going.
